For the seventh consecutive year the Anne Frank House received a record number of visitors in 2016, with a total of 1.295.585 visitors. That is 27.490 more than in 2015 (when the total stood at 1,268,095).

Ronald Leopold, executive director of the Anne Frank House, says: “Our visitors come from all over the world to visit the Secret Annexe; the place where Anne Frank went into hiding and wrote her diary. The connection that these people feel with Anne Frank and her life story is always moving and inspiring.”

Hope

On 16 March 1944 Anne Frank wrote in her diary that she lived in “crazy times and even crazier circumstances”. In some respects that also applies to these times, both close to and far away from the Anne Frank House on the Prinsengracht canal in Amsterdam. Ronald Leopold: “We realise that we live in a vulnerable society, in which the mission entrusted to us by Anne’s father Otto Frank is more important than ever. Together with our partners we organise educational projects worldwide. The life story of Anne Frank motivates young people to reflect on the social developments of then and now, and inspires them to combat prejudice and discrimination in their own surroundings. That gives hope.”
